Gerard Pique connected with his Barcelona teammate Andres Iniesta to give Spain all 3 points with a late header and also the winner in Toulouse this afternoon. Check out the late winner below:
Vicente Del Bosque’s men came into the game today looking to avenge their horrible World Cup Showing and retain their Euro Cup Championship and possibly win a historic 3 Euro Cups in a row. Although they looked well in tune ups against South Korea and other opponents, their final game before the tournament saw them lose to a minnow in Georgia that raised questions about the starting 11 as a cohesive unit.
Throughout today’s game, Nolito, Silva and Morata failed on many occasions to create space and run when La Roja set themselves up in great positions. Perhaps Silva will move back into a more central role and Fabregas will rotate to the bench for someone like Thiago or Koke who provide different dynamics to the team.
Speaking of Fabregas he had probably the most important moment of the game with a brilliant clearance to keep the game level. The only man though to really put on a great performance was the Maestro Andres Iniesta. Iniesta constantly got into dangerous areas with perfect touch on the ball and tried to set up his teamates on several occasions. The rest of the team will have to look to emulate him if they are to reach the late stages of this summers Euros.
Funniest moment for me though was seeing Gerard Pique’s goal scoring celebration. The stare he gave the spanish fans who all too often love to whistle and boo him who went mental as he saved their countries bacon was all too surreal, especially with his opposite Sergio Ramos celebrating with him.
